August Updates

August 13th – Saw the culmination of months of negotiations with pole owners to reach an agreement to attach to the poles.  Eastern Maine Electric Cooperative, Consolidated Communications (pole owners) and Downeast Broadband signed off on the official “Pole Attachment Agreement.”  The Maine Public Utilities Commission gave their approval to attach in early March.

We are set to begin our pole survey work for August 21st. We will begin with 200 poles in Baileyville and 200 poles in Calais. Representatives from Downeast Broadband’s network builder (Pioneer Broadband) and Consolidated Communications will do a “ride along” to examine the poles and determine what make-ready work, if any, will be necessary before we can begin to attach the fiber. The survey work should take one or two days and once completed, Consolidated will provide us with an estimated cost to prepare the poles in question.

August 23rd – The Baileyville Central Office structures will be delivered and lowered by crane onto the prepared site.

August 27th – Julie Jordan, the Director of DBU, gave a formal project update to the Calais City Council on August 16th and will present a similar report to the Baileyville Town Council.
